Steve Harris of Hillbilly Vegas shares the heartfelt inspiration behind the title track "Long Way Back":
"My grandfather and his younger brother joined the Navy on December 8, 1941. By 1944, he found himself on leave, sitting on a beach in North Africa, feeling an overwhelming sense of loneliness as he listened to Roy Acuff’s 'Wreck on the Highway.' He vowed that if he ever made it home, he’d never leave again. After a brief stop in New York, where he called a square dance at Madison Square Garden, he returned home and married his girl, Freda Maxine Smith. They built a life together, with a farm, kids, and finally a grandson who never forgot the stories of his first hero."
"Down The Honkytonk" is Hillbilly Vegas' take on Frankie Miller’s classic song from his Full House album. Steve Harris, a huge fan of Miller and Paul Rodgers, felt that this infectious boogie perfectly suited Hillbilly Vegas. After introducing it to their live set, the band decided to record it for their new release.
Joining Hillbilly Vegas on their July dates are dynamic 4-piece hard rockers, The Howling Tides. This USA/UK pairing promises to deliver an irresistible cocktail of great new rock music.
During their UK tour, Hillbilly Vegas will also be collaborating with Teenage Cancer Trust to help raise funds and awareness. In addition to fundraising at their concerts, the band will perform lunchtime acoustic street performances in some of the cities they visit, adding a unique twist to their tour.
Following the Long Way Back Tour, Hillbilly Vegas will return to the UK later this year to perform at Planet Rockstock and WinterStorm festivals as part of the tour for their forthcoming album.
Whether on stages big or small, Hillbilly Vegas have learned how to make every audience feel like an important part of the show. An accomplished frontman and keen raconteur, Steve Harris tells stories, reveals the inspiration about his songs, and where appropriate they throw in covers of material that played a part in developing the band’s sound.
Hillbilly Vegas have a reputation for winning over any audience they perform for – guaranteed.
